Skiing in Wipptal – balm for the soul
There are many songs and stories about skiing being more than just a sport. Anyone who has arrived in the valley after a long downhill run with enjoyable turns knows that skiing is pure happiness. The wind in your face, the familiar crunch of the snow under your skis, and your cheeks red from the cool air: that’s what freedom feels like. It’s even better when you can enjoy it away from crowded tourist areas. During a skiing holiday at our Parkhotel Matrei, relaxed skiing enjoyment awaits you in the surrounding skiing areas of Tyrol and South Tyrol, as well as in the Zillertal and Stubai Alps. Fun in the snow – even without skis
Planning a winter holiday at the Brenner Pass but not a fan of skiing? Or perhaps you’re seeking variety and new experiences? We have you covered. Around our Parkhotel Matrei, you will find countless possibilities for a personalised and unforgettable stay in Tyrol. Whether it’s cross-country skiing, tobogganing, snowshoeing, ice climbing, or ice skating – the list of leisure activities is long. The hardest part is deciding what to do each day!
Winter and snowshoe hiking
If you want to explore the wintry, snow-covered landscape at your own pace and away from large crowds, we highly recommend a winter hike or snowshoe hike. As you walk, concentrate on your breath, your heartbeat, and the crunching of the snow beneath your feet. Enjoy the silence and the enchanting sight of untouched nature. Breathe in the crystal-clear winter air as you traverse more than 100 kilometres of prepared and unprepared winter hiking trails and leave all the everyday stress behind. Florian Obojes, your host at the Parkhotel Matrei, will be happy to advise you personally and tell you about the most beautiful trails.
Tobogganing
Tobogganing is an integral part of the winter experience in Tyrol, along with the glistening snow and the crackling fireplace. With a bit of luck, your hike – or lift ride – up the mountain will take you to a cosy hut where you can warm up by the wood-burning stove and fuel up for the descent with a hearty snack. Take it easy and enjoy the ride as momentum leads to speed. Those who reach the bottom first will find themselves back at the top in no time, ready for round two! In North Tyrol’s Wipptal alone, there are nine toboggan runs with a total of 31 kilometres of fun, many of which are also illuminated at night. It’s an activity that promises family fun and enjoyment for both the young and the young at heart.
